The reasonably priced Travelodge hotel chain has opened its 574th hotel near Ashford International Station.
The group said with the opening of the Ashford Town Center Travelodge, the company now operates hotels near 200 of Britain's busiest train stations. The new 58-room hotel is an investment of £ 5 million for the landlord, Ashford Borough Council.
Travelodge has also identified 10 "key donor towns" where a hotel near the train station is to be opened, providing fast service to London. Locations include: Broxbourne, Gillingham (Kent), Haywards Heath, Maidstone, Reading, Shoreham, Stevenage, Tonbridge, Ware and Watford.
All in all, this proposed railroad expansion plan would represent a £ 60m investment for third party investors and create around 300 new jobs.
Travelodge UK Property Director Tony O'Brien said, "We are pleased to open our 574th hotel at Ashford International Station and strengthen our presence near key stations that connect the south and north of the UK via the HS1 and Connect HS2 routes. This hotel opening also means that we now operate hotels near the 200 most visited stations in the UK.
"Our next stop is the opening of hotels at train stations in major commuter cities in the southeast, which provide a fast connection to London. These cities are important business locations, growing steadily and attracting businesses of all sizes. "
Wendy Spinks, Commercial Director of HS1 Ltd, added, "HS1 is driving recovery throughout Kent by attracting new investment into local areas. The opening of the Ashford Town Center Travelodge will help tourists and business travelers using high-speed services reach more and more tourists. "
